Andrea Rodil

Andrea was born in Lugo (Spain). She completed a BSc in Chemistry and an MSc in Advanced Chemistry at the University of Santiago de Compostela, completing a Masters thesis in “Synthesis and synthetic applications of trifluoromethylated aryne precursors”, under the guidance of Professor María Dolores Pérez Meirás. She is currently carrying out her PhD in fluorine chemistry under the guidance of Professor David O’Hagan, as a FLUORINE21 ITN early stage researcher.

Project Title: Expanding Enzymatic preparation of C-F bonds

Project Objectives: Synthetic bio-organic chemistry for transhalogenation reactions ; model applications of the fluorinase for fluorine-18 incorporation ; chemoenzymatic transformations to prepare CF2 analogues.

Posters and Presentations:
Poster presented to RSC April 2015: Exploring the biosynthesis of fluorinated natural products in Streptomyces MA37

Andrea spent the month of June 2016 in University College Dublin, Ireland investigating Biotransformations of fluorinated compounds by fungus Cunninghamella elegans.

She stayed on campus in the Glenomena Student Accommodation. Please click here to read about the new skills she acquired.
