Members of the Fluor21 Network have engaged in many Outreach activities since the Network came together in March 2014.

  • In September 2017, Mate Somlyay took part at the European Researchers' Night in Vienna, helping his OpenScience Lab to explain alternative splicing to visitors.
  • In February 2017, Marta Saccomanno and William Palmer Brown attended UCD Science Festival at University College Dublin, Ireland.

  • In October 2016, Dr. Cormac Murphy gave a talk for the 4th class of St. Laurence’s National School at Greystones, Co. Wicklow and helped the students to prepare their Young Scientist Projects.

  • Science Fair, Prague, Czech Republic, September 2015 - ESRs performed chemoluminiscence experiments with fluorophores which showed children how energy could be absorbed by other molecules and the consequent emission of light.
  • 21st ISFC-ISoFT, Como, Italy, August 2015 - On behalf of the Fluorine 21 Network, Dr Cormac Murphy made a presentation on Fungal biofilms and organfluorine compounds The following video gives an overview of the week long event which had over 500 delegates from 37 different countries.

  • Durham’s University Schools’ Science Festival, April 2015 - ESRs demonstrated at the annual Durham University Schools' Science Festival. This event aims to stimulate interest and encourage wider participation in science, and to support the next generation of scientists from the local area.
  • Girls Day, Freie Universitat Berlin, 26th April 2015 - ESRs demonstrated some experiments to schoolgirls from a variety of secondary schools in Berlin.
  • Chembus - An outreach programme that takes chemistry experiments and demonstrations designed for S1 and S2 pupils out to Schools in Tayside, Angus, Fife and Perthshire.
  • Durham University, UK, September 2014 - Outreach training and demonstration was given at our 1st training event in Durham.
  • Poster Presentations - All ESRs have compiled poster presentations to their peers and to audiences beyond the Network.
  • Oral Presentations - All ESRs have made several oral presentations to their peers and to audiences beyond the Network.
