2nd Transferable Skills Training Workshop - Dublin Sept 2015

Our 2nd Transferable Skills Training Workshop was hosted by University College Dublin in September 2015. ESRs attended a 2 day event which formed the 2nd part of their Transferable Skills training ( the 1st part having taken place in Lumley Castle, Durham in November 2014).

The purpose of the workshops was to provide support for ESR’s written communication skills and to further develop their advanced oral presentation skills. This series of workshops also looked at how best to communicate scientific results to a general audience.

Dublin September 2015

The workshop content looked at different techniques for successful academic writing which included identifying your audience, finding your focus, and how to structure an effective academic abstract.

ESRs also had an opportunity to practise bringing their research to a wider audience. This aspect of the workshop emphasised why being able to talk about your research is important for your life and career and how an idea becomes a presentation or broadcast. They also took part in mock interviews!

A lecture on funding and grant applications was also given.
